Augmented Reality Is More Than Just A Game
You’ll have heard about (and maybe even tried out) the newest trend in augmented reality gaming – Pokémon GO. It’s taken the world by storm and while designed for fun, it provides a great example of how this kind of technology can be adopted by a mass market.
Aside from the gaming industry, augmented reality technologies offer fantastic opportunities for businesses across all industries and various areas, such as training and education in healthcare, simulation in construction, three-dimensional designs in architecture, remote tours of heritage sites and environments that would otherwise be inaccessible – the possibilities are beyond imagination.
#hellodigital has teamed up with Soluis, who are based in Glasgow and specialise in visualisation and 3D animation, to bring augmented and virtual reality technology to Inverness. ‘Augmented Business Week’ will be taking place at the #hellodigital demonstration centre at An Lòchran on Inverness Campus from 29 August – 2 September.
There will be an array of virtual and augmented reality equipment available for visitors to try out and experience first-hand. During this week long exhibition, you’ll get the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a computer-generated environment with Soluis’ 4.5 metre dome.
To demonstrate what amazing things can be done with virtual reality technology, the British Museum worked with Soluis on a Bronze Age VR weekend last year, recreating a Bronze Age roundhouse which visitors were able to experience in the dome or by using a VR headset.Visitors of the ‘Augmented Business Week’ will get the chance to step inside this very Bronze Age roundhouse and experience it for themselves
One of the many other destinations you’ll get the chance to pay a virtual visit to is Skara Brae, Orkney’s world-famous Neolithic settlement. This specific project was originally launched in 2013 in a joint collaboration between the National Museum of Scotland, the University of Exeter and the University of Edinburgh and was brought to life by Jonathan Knox, Head of Creative Media at Soluis.
You will also be able to try out other equipment such as the HTC Vive, Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Rift devices and discover how they can be used for business purposes – and in some fun ways as well!
So come along and take the opportunity to explore this world of cutting-edge technology. You’ll also get the chance to discover the latest mobile apps which let you experience augmented reality at your fingertips.
The daily seminars on AR / VR along with hands-on exhibits will provide a lively, interactive platform where delegates can learn, network, and share knowledge. Guest speakers will offer unique insights and real-life case studies in the seminars, each of which will focus on a different business sector.
